EXPERIENCE AND CLEAR LEADERSHIP

Welcome! Jennifer is running for a second term as trustee to the Pasadena Unified School District. She has been a trustee since 2020. Described as an ‘unwavering supporter of public education’ Jennifer is committed to the future of the PUSD.

In her first term as trustee she has:

RESPONSIBILITIES & VISION

  • Works closely and effectively with the superintendent as part of the governance team on student achievement

  • Served as a leader on the Design Team for the Strategic Plan as a Captain that collaborated with Steering Committee to develop the PUSD Five Year Plan, 2023

  • Speaking publicly about inclusive practices Supporting the goals in the PUSD for inclusive practices for our students with special needs to be in general education classrooms and informing local and state elected officials about inclusive practices and the need to fully fund IDEA

  • Serving as a member of City of Pasadena CTE Committee Career Technical Education Committee with Pasadena City College and PUSD

  • Inspired creation of Superintendent’s Enrollment Committee and serves on it as well, Captain 2023-present

  • Spearheaded Asset Management Sought information and talent for asset management to assist our district in best utilizing our closed sites. I continue to support the PUSD team in this important work which includes workforce housing, housing for families, and vocational education.

  • Chairs the PUSD Student Safety and School Climate Committee, 2022-present

    COMMUNITY

  • Listens to labor partners when they reach out and meets with them

  • Created town meetings for the community to meet PUSD Principals, participated in community events with Pasadena City Council to discuss PUSD

  • Worked with community members to craft and finalize Resolution 2703 - Support of Inclusion of Armenian Checkbox in 2030 Census

  • Co-hosts the Women's History Month Assembly that she co-created with a principal. This assembly has expanded to high school, 2018-present

  • Answered the call for outreach to Altadena by the Altadena Chamber of Commerce and Altadena Town Council to include items in a regularly updated ‘Welcome’ tote bag for new homeowners. Now PUSD school materials are offered to new Altadena residents.

    KNOWLEDGE

  • Completed Masters In Governance training twice for California School Boards Association

  • Completed the CSBA Ethics Training prior to it being required for school board members by the State of California

  • Created virtual meetings with public education authors and activists who are working throughout the country to help public education thrive: Pastor Charles Foster Johnson, Dr. Sarah Stitzlein

  • Serves on the PUSD Legislative & Advocacy Committee

If elected, in her next term she will:

  • Student Achievement: Working with the superintendent on ways to support increasing graduation rates. Continuing to work with the City of Pasadena and Pasadena City College as a member of the CTE committee to create vocational education for PUSD students.

  • Inclusive Practices: Press elected officials to fully support funding IDEA and assist the district implement inclusive practices in our schools.

  • TK for Enrollment goals: Focusing on Transitional Kindergarten which is a strong pathway to maintaining and growing enrollment.

  • Enrollment: Continue to work with our superintendent and help with declining enrollment which is a challenge in our community as it is nationwide.

  • Asset Management: Continue to support PUSD with the goals of implementing a plan for asset management for our closed campuses

  • Fully support workforce housing for PUSD employees and their families
